Musings of a Fashionista

Posts Tagged ‘fashionista

How do I always know what the next hottest thing is?  For example, nautical stripes, I mentioned them on my blog and now they’re all over sites like luckymag.com.

It really isn’t that hard.  You just keep your eyes open, read a lot of fashion magazines, and if you’re stuck in a place for a long time, you people watch.

What’s the next trend?  Floral is still in, but beach season is approaching fast.  Trends there still remain to be seen, but I’m hoping for cutout one piece bathing suits.  Military style things?  Possibly. Polka dots?  Definitely.

How to wear all of these trends together?  You don’t.

Polka dots don’t match floral, military style + polka dot = disaster, and cutouts remain to be seen what they match with.

Here is a Polyvore set to show you how I think some trends should be worn.

I have been volunteering at an organization called One Simple Wish.  OSW grants “wishes” to foster children, and right now, they’re selling prom gowns in a dress shop.

You can donate your own dresses to them, they accept gently used dresses.  I would recommend the gowns being no older than 5 years old.

When I’m in there, I’m amazed at how many different dresses they have.  They probably have about 500 dresses!  If you look, you can spot some Vera Wang dresses, Michael Kors and Nine West shoes.

I’ve heard some of the volunteers talking, and they say, “ooh, that’s cute!”  “I want that one!”   Currently you can enter to win the dress that Miss Teen USA won.  Brooke Burke, host of Dancing with the Stars, also gave two dresses that you can buy!

I highly recommend going to check out One Simple Wish and their dress shop.  You can find more info here:  http://www.onesimplewish.org/   or email info@onesimplewish.org.

I have noticed that many people are wearing quilted coats. So, if you want to rock that trend, exactly what do you wear with it?

I think the key is balance. Quilted jackets are often bulky. So, wear one that is longer, like the one in this set, and pair it with skinny jeans, a scarf, and boots.

But don’t just wear boring colors! Oh no! Try pink, red, and blue, for eye-catching trendiness.
