Comeback Set

Hi! It’s The Fashionista, back again. Like Slim Shady and Britney Spears, all things come back eventually. Perhaps those were bad examples because no one likes Britney, but whatever.
I guess you could say that this post is an experiment to see if anyone actually cares about my lovely fashion blog anymore. I have 44,429 views on Polyvore, apparently. I didn’t know that little ole me could reach so many people. Anyway, that’s a set to show the trends of Fall 2013.

This fashion recap focuses on three red dresses of the Emmy’s. Part 1 was some of the quirkier dresses – oh so many ruffles!
I love Nina’s dress. I like the color – you will see a few more red dresses, red was a very popular color this year – and I like the tight fit, it flatters her.
In comparison to Nina’s strapless stunner, Kate Winslet‘s red dress looks rather boring.
Nina still beats the other two red dresses, even Lea Michele. I usually like Lea’s red carpet style. Let’s compare this to her red carpet dress last year. Which do you like better?

I’m not a big fan of award shows, they go on too late and the only awards that I care about always get given out at 12 am. But I do like the red carpet shows, and usually I catch the fashion recap on Yahoo! the next day. So here are the best and worst of the Emmy fashion, in my opinion. Part two is coming tomorrow, with a bunch of red dresses.

I like this dress, especially the pop of silver. Though is it me or is Paula Abdul leaning to the left? She’s not standing “straight up.” I’m sorry, that was cheesy.
I usually like Gywneth Paltrow’s sense of style. A bit boring, and I wish she would do something about her hair, but nice. This, however, is rather horrible.
Oh, that quirky Heidi Klum. I have seen this dress on both best and worst dressed lists. Personally, I like the dress. What do you think? Take the poll below!
Heather Morris is gorgeous, we all know this. But what was she thinking with this outfit?! The neckline is too low, the dress too ruffled, and the hair…too poofy. Is this a hit or a miss? Vote in the poll!
Jayma Mays is just so…cute! I like this dress, I don’t think that it deserves the D it got on the Yahoo! fashion report card.

Hey guys
So you should probably know that I’m kinda obsessed with nail polish. Nail art? Check. Nail magazines? Check. Nail dryer? Check.
Anyway, I am writing to tell you that I am featured in Liquid Jelly‘s Friday Food and Nails post. I sent in my picture (which I admit isn’t the best, compared to the gorgeous pics the other bloggers have) and I got in! Yay!

These nails are done freehand. What I used:
- OPI Start to Finish base/top coat
- Essie Smokin’ Hot (dark grey)
- OPI Austin-tacious turquoise
- OPI turquoise shatter
There are trends in nail polish, of course, so I will share with you my forecast.
- Olive green. Like an army green, this corresponds with the military style clothing we’ve been seeing on the runways. (Try OPI Uh Oh Roll Down the Window or Zoya Dree)
- Grey. Maybe I’m just saying that because I happened to be wearing grey in that post, but really. Grey. Ooh! (Try Essie Smokin’ Hot or Essie Chinchilly.)
- Nail strips. I tried some of these back in spring and they worked fairly well. (Try Sally Hansen, they’re coming out with some new ones for halloween!)
- Shatter. I looove shatter. Though my friend thinks that the shatter was a lab experiment, I still like it. Which color? I have black, turquoise, silver and blue. The blue is from Sally Hansen and the other three OPI. I’m looking forward to the new hot pink shatter by OPI which is coming out Sept/Oct . OPI does an annual polish called Pink of Hearts and they donate some of the proceeds to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. OPI also donates $25,000. (Not to mention the hot pink shatter is just so cool!)
- Glitter? Nail art? I love both of these so I would be happy if that was trendy. Glitter has a presence in most of the major nail companies’ fall collections. Don’t you just love that Miss Universe collection OPI has out?! (The Muppets collection has loads of glitter too…I’ve seen it and it is awesome!) Nail art might become popular too, but I think it’s too hard for the average work going person to do.

High Dollar Fashion

Since I usually post about things that are under $50, I figured I would do a post about things that are over $50.
Some popular high end brands include:
- Coach
- Burberry
- Ralph Lauren
- Gucci
- Dolce and Gabbana
- Max Azria (and BCBG Max Azria)
- Miu Miu
High end stuff usually comes with a bit of prestige. People will notice things like a Coach bag or a pair of Miu Miu flats. Your whole outfit doesn’t have to scream “$$$!” but a statement piece will get their attention. A powerful outfit (especially if it coordinates with said statement piece) will keep their attention.
Now be warned that my Polyvore set is going to contain some very high dollar items. This is an unrealistic post for me, but what the heck?! I feel like it.
Beachy Style

As promised (and a tad bit late) here is my post on Beachy Style.
There are many places you can go on the beach. I will explore the style elements of each.
- The Boardwalk. On the boardwalk, you can wear pretty much anything, as long as you keep it casual. No heels, please, unless you want to get stuck and fall. Most popular were short-shorts. I only saw three rompers, though those three girls rocked it.
- The Beach. Your bathing suit, sunglasses, sunscreen and a cute cover-up. In terms of cover-ups, you can wear shorts or a sundress.
- Restaurant: Casual. Wear a sundress (no bathing suit under it this time) or a floral shirt. Pair the floral shirt with denim to keep it casual, but then accessorize with some gladiators (love gladiators!) and sparkly nails.
- Restaurant: Fancy. Fancy dress or a skirt. Accessorize! Put on makeup. Most of the other times on the beach you don’t want to wear makeup because of the heat, it would melt and run off. Ew!
Basically, beach style is pretty care free because, well, you’re at the beach! You shouldn’t be worrying about your outfit. But if you have to, use the tips above. Enjoy your vacation! Or, if you’re not on vacation, take the tips and just imagine you’re at the beach 🙂

Now we’re in the heat of the summer and I welcome that. Bring on color, short-shorts and floral print. A post about beachy style will be coming soon! But first, lets talk 4th fashion.
BBQ: Red, white and blue of course! A red and white striped shirt with some navy blue shorts would be perfect. If you’re feeling stylish, try a blue floral skirt with a navy blue tank top.
Fireworks: They’re at night, so you want to bring a blanket and a cardigan. Also, avoid white in case of grass stains. Perhaps go for something with a bit of sparkle that would catch the light of the fireworks.
Pool Party: Wear a sundress over your bathing suit. Pop on some gladiators and some Sally Hansen or Sephora by OPI nail strips.

Hey. I’m sorry I haven’t been posting as much, but life has just been a little crazy lately.
I’ve spied some trends that I think are notable.
First, nail art. I am a huge fan of this, and there are many products to help you do your own nails instead of shelling out big dollars at a salon. OPI Shatter nail polish is super trendy. You paint a color (any, but bright ones like pink and white work best) on your nails like usual, and then paint the shatter over it. Watch as the nail polish shatters or cracks. It dries matte, but if you want a shine you can paint a clear coat over top. OPI shatter collection is available on Amazon and in some beauty stores. Second, floral. Floral is pretty easy to wear. Pair it with some gladiator sandals and a bright nail color, and you’re set.
Third, color blocking. Take a bunch of bold colors and throw them together in an outfit. For a better idea of what it is, look at the Polyvore set below. Tie it together with a solid color belt or shoes.
Prom dresses

Tis the season for prom. The date, the shoes, the flowers and…the dress. Obviously, the dress is the most important part, especially for fashionistas. There’s even a new website out were you can rent a dress and accessories for the big day (http://renttherunway.com/).
The top 3 Prom dress trends:
- Prints (animal, abstract)
- Spray tan (don’t follow this trend)
- Paying too much for a dress you’ll wear once (don’t follow this one either)

Plaid

So plaid was big last year. Obviously. Everywhere you looked, you would see it. Plaid shorts, plaid skirts, plaid tops, plaid hats. Wow. Here’s how to wear it.
How: A solid top or bottom (depending on where you’re wearing it). Gladiator sandals displaying a perfect pedicure, which preferably matches the shorts.
Where: Out and about. It’s not for fancy dinners, though. Go for more of the shopping, gardening, grocery store type trips.
When: Spring and Summer. It’s not for Winter.
What: Nail art (for a tutorial, go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aw1s_mhE0O0), shorts, shirts, bathing suits. Anything.
